Species Name Checker

This tool allows you to check a bulk list of marine species names against the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) taxonomy. It makes the task of ensuring you have the most up-to-date names in your marine research a lot easier.

Simply paste in a list of marine species names (one name per line) into the left hand column and click "check".

The system will check the name against the WoRMS database and try to provide an accepted name if different. Anything revised is highlighted in blue. Anything not found in WoRMS is highlighted in red. You can then copy the returned list back into your database.

You can either use the local version of WoRMS on this server for testing (fast) or use the live WoRMS system for the most up-to-date list (throttled, so slower).
